Founded in 2010 as a Platform offering space to national and regional organizations across Africa, the Africa Platform works to strengthen state society relations through initiatives that promote principled dialogue for effective participatory governance. It is founded on the premise that the state exists because of the society, and must be responsive to the needs and aspirations of that society. Africa Platform achieves this goal in three ways-strengthening the capacities and capabilities of society to engage the state and with the state on development, leadership and vision for the country; building  and strengthening linkages and relationships between the state and civil society; and shaping national, regional and global policies that threaten society legitimacy and weakens participatory governance.
